Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 November 2023
We have here another hymn of praise by the prophet celebrating God’s victory over His enemies. The Christian can enter into and dwell within the goodness and security of our God. That is our ultimate heritage, but in addition, v.3 is a promise for here and now. Regardless of our external circumstances, we can know “the peace of God which surpasses knowledge”.
Those who trust in the Lord will be overcomers and triumph over their enemies and oppressors (vs.5–6). God destroys all stumbling blocks on the path of the righteous, and He gives sufficient grace to help them overcome all difficulties. This gives us the confidence to wait on Him in the darkest and most discouraging times (vs.7–9).
Times of affliction, therefore, only serve to bring us closer to God, even though the types of victories we expect do not come our way and some of God’s Saints pay the ultimate price of faithfulness by giving up their lives (vs.16-18). V.19 is one of the few explicit references to the resurrection from the dead in the Old Testament.
